The Table and Its Dealers
No site about gambling is neutral, however hard it tries. Ours is simple to state: gambling is a product with a price, and a beginner deserves to see that price before anything else. This page sets out what that means for the way we choose topics, explain them and talk about risk.
We start from the rules, not the excitement
Marketing around casinos and sportsbooks leads with jackpots, boosted odds and welcome offers. We work the other way round. An article on a slot feature begins with what the game's information screen actually says. An article on a betting market begins with how it is settled, including the awkward cases such as pushes, void legs and overtime. Only once the mechanics are clear do we talk about why people enjoy the thing at all.
We put the cost on the page
Each game and market carries a built-in cost: the house edge at a casino table, the return-to-player figure on a slot, the margin inside a pair of betting prices, the commission on an exchange. Where a figure is well established, we show it and say under which conditions it applies. Where it varies, we say that instead of guessing. Our explainer on point spreads shows the method: turn the prices into percentages, add them up, and the excess is what the bookmaker keeps.
We write for the first-time reader
Gambling has its own vocabulary, and a lot of it sounds kinder than it really is. "Bonus" usually comes with conditions. "Free spins" often carry play-through rules. "Cash out" is an offer to settle early at a price the operator chooses. Each term is explained where it first shows up, and a running glossary collects the ones that keep recurring.
We also try to answer the question a beginner would be too embarrassed to ask. If a sentence would only make sense to someone who already bets every weekend, it gets rewritten.
Deliberate omissions
- Predictions and tips. We do not tell readers which team, number or game to back.
- Systems. Doubling strategies, "hot" machines and patterns in past results do not change the odds, and we say so plainly.
- Ways around local rules. If something is not permitted where a reader lives, the answer is not to play there.
- Operator rankings. We do not score or recommend casinos or sportsbooks.
We treat limits as part of the hobby
Limits on spending, alerts about playing time and brief account pauses are often framed as tools for people who already have a problem. We see them differently. A budget set before the first bet is part of playing well, in the same way that deciding what to spend on a concert ticket is part of enjoying the concert. Several of our articles, such as the one on bankroll management, are built around that idea.
We stay open to correction
Rules change, operators update their terms and sometimes we simply get something wrong. If a reader flags a mistake, we compare it against the source and fix the article if they are right. The full checklist each piece goes through is set out in our editorial guidelines.
We write for readers aged 18 and up, and a stricter local age limit always takes priority.
If a beginner finishes the article knowing the cost of the bet, it did its job, whether or not they ever place it.
